TRAINING, PLACEMENT AND CAREER COUNSELLING CELL


SESSION 2018-2019

The Training, Placement and Career Counselling Cell in significant linkage with the corporate and business agencies, prepares the students to face the challenges of the real world. The activities of the Cell are:

  • In collaboration with VMware Career Programme, a computer software company, a Campus Recruitment Drive was organized on Nov.02, 2018 for the students of BCA III. Prof. Virank Aggarwal addressed the students and motivated them to pursue skill development programmes in data centre virtualization and evolve towards completely virtualized software-defined data centre architecture: virtualized networking, storage and security to create virtual data centres. This Career Programme also aimed to train, certify and place the candidates in the field of cloud technology and recruited 02 students.
  • A Talk was delivered by Mr. Sunil Gupta and Ms. Ritika Raina from the Global Institute of Vocational & Entrepreneurial Skills

(GIVES), Mohali on Jan.24, 2019 on the topic Awareness on GST and Tally ERP9. The students pursuing post graduation in commerce participated in the discussion and were made to realize how GST works and how one can go ahead to understand the working of GST in Tally along with its accounting and calculation.

  • Another Talk was delivered by Mr. Amanpreet Singh from the Global Institute of Vocational & Entrepreneurial Skills (GIVES), Mohali on Jan.24, 2019 on the topic Digital Marketing for the students of BA III. The basics of digital marketing, career opportunities available in the world of work in digital marketing were discussed.
  • A Seminar was organized by the Cell for the students of BCom III,

on Jan.24, 2019 on Career in Banking Sector and Banking Olympiad by Ms. Anchal Bhatnagar from Oberoi Educational Trust, Sector-22, Chandigarh. Ms. Anchal discussed the job opportunities available in the private banks and the need for skilled manpower. A Banking Olympiad was also conducted by the Trust in the College on Mar. 08, 2019 to enhance the banking knowledge and to give the participants amazing opportunities of joining a private sector bank. The winners of the banking Olympiad were rewarded a cash prize for first three positions and 21 consolation prizes. Moreover, the students were given placement support and were aligned for interviews with different banks/BFSI sector.

  • An interesting and informative seminar was organized by the Cell on Feb.06, 2019 for the civil service aspirants and Mr. Rakesh

Thakur from PRAYAAS: Raj Malhotra 's I.A.S. Study Group conducted a career awareness-cum-counselling session for the students of all streams and classes. Around 90 students participated enthusiastically in it.

  • Focusing on 'Types of Government Jobs and their Requirements ', a seminar was organized on Feb.08, 2019 by Bright Academy, Sector-

15, Chandigarh for the students studying in the final year of bachelor’s studies. The speakers Ms. Arpita Mahajan and Mr.

Ravinder Thakur discussed the availability of jobs in the Banking Sector, SSC, Insurance, RBI, RRB etc. They also discussed how to prepare for these jobs and how to attempt questions during the examinations.114 students attended the seminar.

  • On Feb.22, 2019, a seminar was organized on the topic 'Advanced Technologies '. Mr. Rajiv Nayyar from A & H Software Solutions,

Sector-34, Chandigarh was the keynote speaker. He addressed the students of BCA II and III. Mr. Nayyar focused on content management system and made them aware of the fact that how software development can be dealt with through latest technologies in the corporate sector like Python, Springs, Hibernate, Mambo, Joomla, Word Press, etc.

  • Pool Campus Drive was organized on Mar. 01, 2019 for the students of BCom/BA/BCA III by Amazon Virtual Customer Service, a world-class e-commerce platform. Ms. Umarani, M. explained at length the Amazon Company 's evolution from website to e-commerce partner to the development platform. The company executive also elucidated the lucrative employee benefits where the associates communicate with customers primarily through mail, chat and phone and utilize a variety of software tools to navigate customer accounts, research and review policies and communicate effective solutions in a fun and fast-paced environment.
  • An extension lecture was organized on Mar. 27, 2019 by the Cell. Mr. Saurabh Jaiswal, Centre Director, TIME (Triumphant Institute of Management Education), Chandigarh was the speaker. He spoke about the different career opportunities and shared tips on how to crack various competitive exams with the students.
  • Another extension lecture was organized by the Cell on Mar. 27, 2019. Since the aim of Gurmarg Educare, Sector-34, Chandigarh is to provide programmes that can help students to increase their performance in case they wish to appear in IAS/PCS/CLAT and other competitive exams, Mr. Surinder Chauhan spoke at length, highlighting the ways to achieve academic excellence and personal excellence.
  • Mega Job Fest was organized on Mar. 30, 2019 for the students of BA/BCA/BBA/BCom/MCom. More than 32 corporate entities including Banking Sector, Insurance, Skill Development, Immigration, Sales and Retail, Just Dial, OYO, Patanjali Ayurveda, G.I.V.E.S., Helium Recruitments, Maruti Suzuki, etc. visited the institute and a large number of candidates marked themselves present.704 students from various colleges registered themselves for the job fest. On-the-spot job letters were given to 47 selected candidates and 431 students were short-listed for the next phase of selection.

SESSION 2017-2018

  • An entertainment session was organized by Airtel on Jul. 31, 2017.
  • A Lecture on Resume Writing was delivered by the Real Pro Business School on Aug. 08, 2017 for the students of BA, BCA and BCom.
  • A Painting Competition was organized on Aug. 17, 2017, by Humane Society India.
  • A Seminar was organized by Career Launcher on Aug. 18, 2017, for stimulating a positive attitude towards life in students.
  • A Dance Competition was organized by FM Radio on Sep. 09, 2017.
  • A Lecture on how to crack various entrance examinations like IBPO, SSC, SSC, CGL etc. was delivered by Gyanam Institute on Sep. 13, 2017.
  • A Pushup Challenge was organized on Sep. 16, 2017, by L’Oreal India.
  • A Fun-Spell for students was organized by ‘Radio Mirchi’ on Sep. 29, 2017.
  • A Seminar was organized by Sharp Minds Institute of Computers, Sector 47, Chandigarh in Oct. 2017, to impart knowledge about the careers after BCA and also regarding how to crack various entrance examinations.
  • A Placement Drive was organized in Nov. 2017, by Concentrix Daksh Services India Pvt. Ltd.
  • A talk on Career Opportunities in Law was organized by Info Maths on Feb. 20, 2018.
  • Faculty of IBS (ICFAI Business School) delivered a talk on career opportunities on April 11, 2018.
  • A talk on Career Counselling was organized for the students by Tata Institute of Social Sciences on Feb. 22, 2018.
  • A talk on Happiness was delivered by University of Life, Chandigah on Feb. 23, 2018.
  • Academy of Digital Arts organized a workshop to motivate and induct students into various capacity building courses on April 17, 2018.

The Cell executed four Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with

  • IBS –ICFAI Business School, Phase VIII, Industrial Area, Mohali
  • Academy of Digital Arts, Sector 32 D, Chandigarh
  • Info Maths, Sector 32, Chandigarh
  • Job Destination, Phase 2, Mohali

Furthermore, in collaboration with the RUSA Cell of the college, the Training and Placement Cell organized various ‘Capacity Building Courses’ for the students. An Induction Programme to these courses was held on April 17, 2018. The courses offered under the programme are as follows:

  • Digital Marketing
  • Entrepreneurship Management
  • Marketing Management
  • Graphic Designing
  • Graphic and Motion Animation and 3D Products and Visualization
  • Production and Film-making
  • Photography
  • Advance VFX Programme

In addition to these courses, a specialized course on communication skills under the umbrella of ‘Language Work Station’ as per the audio-visual system was organized for the students.

SESSION 2016-2017

  • A Job Fest was organized in June 2016.
  • A seminar was organized on latest education news by “Career India,” a leading education portal in August 2016.
  • A lecture on 'Resume Writing ' was delivered by an expert from the Indian Business School.
  • An informative session on various entrance exams was organized by 'Bulls Eye ' in September 2016.
  • A seminar was organized by 'Fortune ', an institute providing essentials regarding study programmes abroad in September 2016.
  • A seminar was organized in October 2016 by 'SMIC ', an institute that prepares students aspiring to pursue MCA.
  • A fun-spell competition was organized by the popular FM channel, 'Radio Mirchi '.
  • An informative session on 'Career Counselling ' was conducted by 'Gyanm, ' an institute that provides coaching for various competitive exams.
  • A talk was organized on 'Career Counselling ' by 'Jetking ' in November 2016.
  • An informative session on various competitive exams was organized by 'InfoStudy ' in September 2016.
  • A quiz competition was organized by 'Bulls Eye. '
  • 7th  Mega Job Fest was organized on March 25, 2017.
