Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has established ‘MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years. To develop the culture of innovation systematically, MIC has created ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC)’ across selected HEIs.
Therefore as per mandate of Ministry of Education, Innovation Cell, Govt. of India and instructions of the Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh Vide Endst. No. 533-DHE-UT-C5-12(44)2022/6155 dated 03-10-2023, the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) has been constituted in the college w.e.f 23-10-2023.
The Cell organized various types of events as per calendar of MOE-IIC.
KEY INITIATIVE
Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with Department of Environment Studies of PGGC 46, commemorated National Pollution Control Day on 2nd December, 2023 by organising an Inter College Virtual Quiz. . It was held via google form with automated certificate generation on the score of 60% and above. The quiz was circulated among the students of different streams of the colleges of the tricity. Students participated enthusiastically with around 100 responses received within few hours.
OBJECTIVE
The quiz was conducted with the dual objective of creating awareness and gauging the knowledge of students on Pollution Control Policies and Methods in the country. The quiz aimed to motivate the students to be cautious of sources that cause environmental pollution and curb them.
IMPACT
It helped the students to understand and work to curb the pollution menace as an individual as well as a society
KEY INITIATIVE
Institution’s Innovation Council in collaboration with Department of Environment Studies of PGGC 46, commemorated National Energy Conservation Day on 14th Dec. 2023 by organising an Online Expert Talk by Ms. Sukanya Gaur. Assistant Project Manger, CREST, Chandigarh. The online talk was held via google meet platform, where students of various streams participated.
OBJECTIVE
Ms. Sukanya highlighted the vast source of renewable sources are country harbours which should be tapped in an economical manner.
IMPACT
It created much needed awareness on energy conservation among the students alongwith useful tips to the students to save energy and minimise their energy consumption on daily basis.
KEY INITIATIVE
The Institution’s Innovation Council and NSS Unit of Post Graduate Government College, Sector-46, Chandigarh celebrated National Youth Day on 12th Jan. 2024 in the college campus with great fervour and enthusiasm. Commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, one of the greatest philosophers and spiritual leaders, the day is celebrated to create awareness on the role of youth in building a great nation on the ideologies of Swami Vivekananda. An interesting Speech competition “The Changemakers” was organised for the students of various streams on the theme of Viksit Bharat 2047.
OBJECTIVE
Principal of the college, Dr. Abha Sudarshan enjoyed listening to the bright and unique ideas of the students and applauded their efforts. She motivated the students, calling them as the hope for the future who with their muscles of iron and nerves of steel could put the nation on the path to progress. Dean of the college, Dr. Rajesh Kumar and Vice Principal, Dr. Baljit Singh also graced the occasion. Students of different streams presented their ideas of the Viksit Bharat eloquently and effectively, impressing and motivating the audience .
IMPACT
Students shared their bright and unique ideas of the Viksit Bharat . Their vision motivated others too. These students are the hope for the future who with their muscles of iron and nerves of steel could put the nation on the path to progress.
KEY INITIATIVE
Institutions Innovation Cell (IIC) in collaboration with Placement Cell of Post Graduate Government College Sector-46 Chandigarh organized “Karigari Se Karobari-Self Help Group Festival” on 14th February, 2024. The fest was organized to promote the self employment and entrepreneurial skills among students so that they need not to stand in queue for jobs after their studies.
OBJECTIVE
Students of all the streams actively participated in the Fest and there were 43 Stalls run by the student owners where various types of products, arts & crafts and games were sold. More than 800 students participated in the fest and students as a Stall Owners earned a handsome amount over their investment. The Fest was managed under able guidance of Dr. Baljit Singh, Vice Principal of the college. The fest was organised by Dr. Mukesh Chauhan, Convener (IIC) as a Coordinator and Dr. Gobinda Chander Sethi as Co-coordinator.
IMPACT
It exposed the students to the world of business giving them hans on experience of sales and marketing. It was a great initiative to promote self employment and hone the entrepreneurial skills among students.
KEY INITIATIVE
An Entrepreneurship Development Program was organized in the college campus from 15-17 Feb. 2024 for students of the college. The programme was organised by Institution’s Innovation Cell (IIC) in collaboration with Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (RCED), Chandigarh on behalf of Directorate of Industries, UT-Chandigarh. Total 79 students from various streams participated in the EDP.
OBJECTIVE
Resource persons from banking and industries alongwith Mr. Paramjit Singh, Director of RCED delivered the lecture cum sharing information on the following themes:
1. Importance and Need of Self Employment and Entrepreneurship.
2. Skills required for Entrepreneurship and how to acquire them.
3. Govt. Support and financing form Govt. For establishing the New venture.
IMPACT
It was a interactive programme and students were highly satisfied with the information shared with them. We are expecting that some of participants will certainly choose entrepreneurship as a carrier option and will be employer in near future.
KEY INITIATIVE
Information Technology Day has been celebrated in the college though online interactive session on 11th May 2024. The session was organized under able leadership of Mr. Dharamjit Singh, Assistant Manager at Central Cooperative Bank, Ropar (Punjab) .
OBJECTIVE
He very well explained the importance of the IT in day to day life as well as for formation of a bright future. He gave a number of examples that how the IT can make our life easy for various routine tasks and how it can be utilized to add value in our knowledge to crack the competitive exams. He further explained that there are some negative sides of IT if it is not utilized with care and caution.
IMPACT
The event successfully created a strong connect between the youth and the IT. It helped youth to understand and apply the benefits of IT for the benefit of the society.
KEY INITIATIVE
An online session on the topic “Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and IP Management for startups” was conducted on May 28, 2024. The session was conducted by Dr. Rahul Taneja Scientist Directorate of Science and Technology, Govt of Haryana,Panchkula.
OBJECTIVE
The session aimed at developing deep insight and practical guidance on IPR, copyright, trademarks, patents, industrial property. The presentation was very engaging and in a very short time, all the important aspect were fruitfully touched.
IMPACT
The participants were completely engaged in the in-depth and intellectual knowledge of the speaker and requested for offline session very soon as they wanted to explore more and more about the topic.
KEY INITIATIVE
Department of Environment Studies in collaboration with Dharini "Environment Awareness Society and Institutional Innovation Council of the Post Graduate Government college, Sector-46, Chandigarh celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2024. To motivate and sensitise students towards their duty to protect and conserve environment, two online competitions, Essay Writing and Poster Making were held.

To motivate and sensitise students towards their duty to protect and conserve environment
IMPACT
Students researched on the theme of land use, degradation and restoration and gave their inputs int the form of well written essays.
KEY INITIATIVE
Post Graduate Government College Sector 46 Chandigarh celebrated the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign on 9th August 2024 and National Flag Hoisting on 15th August 2024. Celebrating the tricolour, a plethora of activities, competitions and cultural programs were organized in the college campus to enliven the spirit of nationalism in all. A rally commemorating the heroes of freedom struggle and holding the spirit of patriotism high was flagged off by Principal of the college, Prof. J.K. Sehgal, Dean of the college, Ms. Anuradha Mittal and Vice Principal of the college Prof. Sneh Sharma. Students carrying posters and slogans drenched in patriotic colours cheered along the rally.

It was an initiative to unite India with the national flag, with great fervor and enthusiasm.
The event aimed at creating a sense of national pride, unity, and patriotism among the students and faculty alike.
IMPACT
Students also participated in Poster making competition dedicated to National Flag and its supreme importance with great zeal and excitement. The cultural program entrenched in patriotic colours saw students of different streams sharing their love for motherland in the form of songs, speeches and poems.

On August 27th, 2024, the college hosted an enlightening session on “Innovation and Start-up Ecosystem,” aimed at inspiring students to embrace entrepreneurship as a viable career path. This event was organized under the aegis of the Institution Innovation Council (IIC), an initiative dedicated to fostering a culture of innovation within educational institutions.
OBJECTIVE
The primary objective of the "Innovation and Start-up Ecosystem" session was to inspire and educate students about the significance of innovation and entrepreneurship in today’s economy. The session aimed to:
1. Foster Entrepreneurial Mindset: Encourage students to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career option, particularly in the context of limited job opportunities in traditional sectors.
2. Highlight the Importance of Innovation: Emphasize the role of innovation in driving economic growth and development, especially in a developing country like India.
3. Provide Awareness of Government Support: Inform students about various government schemes and resources available to support start-ups, including financial and non-financial assistance.
IMPACT
The session successfully achieved its objectives, with the following outcomes:
1. Increased Awareness: Students gained a deeper understanding of the start-up ecosystem, including the importance of innovation and the role it plays in economic growth and job creation.
2. Enhanced Interest in Entrepreneurship: The session sparked interest among students in pursuing entrepreneurship, with many expressing a newfound consideration for starting their own ventures.
3. Knowledge of Support Systems: Students became aware of the various government schemes and resources available to assist aspiring entrepreneurs, which may encourage them to take the first step toward establishing their start-ups.
