Activities 2015-16
  • An Orientation Workshop was organized in August. About 200 students were oriented regarding the aims/ objectives of the Society. They were also informed about the different kinds of problems being faced by women in the society.
  • In collaboration with NGO Sanjh Jagori, a lecture on ‘Emotional Health of Young Men and Women’ was delivered by Dr. Pritam on Aug. 12, 2015. About 130 students actively participated in it. The objective of this lecture was to create awareness about mental and emotional health and to help them deal with such issues.
  • An interactive session ‘Kahi Ankahi’ in collaboration with Sanjh Jagori was organized on the campus to make students aware of the unjust gulf existing between males and females in the society.
  • On Feb. 02, 2016, the Society also participated in ‘One Billion Rising Programme’, the biggest mass action to end violence against women. Local colleges of Chandigarh performed collectively in this event. Group dances, mime and skits were among some of the activities performed on this occasion.
  • As per the recommendation of the UGC, about 20 students were appointed as Gender Champions who play an active role in gender sensitization programme.
  • In collaboration with Dainik Bhaskar, a talk on ‘Domestic Violence’ was organized by a team of Advocates from Punjab and Haryana High Court on Feb.09, 2016.

  • On 22nd Aug.’14 a one day orientation Workshop was organized. The workshop was organized with the joint efforts of the members of the society. About 150 students of the College participated in the workshop. Ms. Pooja Gupta, member of the society presented power point presentation on the concept, problems and core areas of gender inequity. Speaking on the topic she stated that crime graph against women is increasing at an alarming rate. There has been 31.02% increase in crime against women over last five years. To curb all these we should make people ready to accept the principal of gender equity. Students were also motivated to take part in the discussion and come forward to educate the people to control the problem of female foeticide as decreasing sex ratio is an alarming problem before the state. Another area of attention is the health and education of women section.
  • On 20th Sept.’14. Ms. Shivani from Brahma Kumari Ashram delivered a Talk on ‘Power of determination’. She enlightened the students with her thought provoking ideas on the power of concentration, hard work and positivity of mind. Students were highly impressed with her lessons on moral values and promised to take their lives on the right path. On the occasion, the students were appealed to come forward and protect the society from the emerging evils by the principal of the College.
  • Essay Writing Competition was organized on 15th Oct.’14 on Gender Equity: A Myth or Reality, Women Empowerment and Gender Equity with Legal Perspectives. About 20 students participated and the result were as follows:-

  • On 27th Nov.’14 a Paper Reading contest on Gender equity was held on the topics : Role of Media in maintaining Gender Equity, Gender Equity: Issues and Challenges, Role of women in Changing Scenario of Society and Constitutional provisions of gender Equity

  • On 30th Jan.’15, a function with the help of an NGO ‘ Jago Ri’ was organized in the College. Two documentary films on Gender issues were shown. Students were sensitized on the various gender issues by playing games. Students had interesting interactions and argued on issues related to female foeticide, eve teasing and domestic violence.
  • On 11th Feb.’15, the students of the society participated in the community outreach programme. They participated in the Road Show on ‘One Billion Rising’ movement. This is an international movement to bring justice to the victim of gender discrimination all over the world. This movement is meant to awaken the society. This show was first performed in the Panjab University, Student Centre, Chandigarh and then Sector 17, Plaza, Chandigarh. Students from GCG -11 and GCG- 42 and Jago Ri organization were also the participants. Students jointly performed Nukkar Natak and Group Songs on Gender Issues. The members of the society Ms. Shashi Wahi, Ms Gurwinder Kaur, Mr. Praveen Chaubey and Mr. Gaurav Jindal were present along with the team of about 50 students from the College.

  • Students volunteers joined the show Chal Kar Pahal organized by Start Plus in Leisure valley CHD.
